I live and work in the Pembina Valley, on Treaty 1 territory and the Homeland of the Red River Métis.
I acknowledge the Anishinaabe, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline, Nehethowuk and Métis peoples who have cared for and continue to care for these lands. I also recognize that living and working here comes with a responsibility to learn about the history of these lands, to understand the ongoing impacts of colonization, and to contribute to relationships built on respect, honesty, and reciprocity.
For me, a land acknowledgement is a starting point rather than an ending point. Much of my work is rooted in community, and I believe that community work means paying attention to whose community we're talking about, whose voices have been heard, and whose haven't.
